Anthony Cole and I played this music in December of 2022 inside a tunnel which houses a walkway alongside a canal in Lake Minnehaha which passes underneath a road. It was a nice spot to play outdoors with a wonderful natural echo, and I recorded the session on a portable audio recorder. We both moved freely throughout the tunnel while playing. Playing in different spots in the tunnel as well as directly outside of it produced a variety of textures and sonic effects. There were fish watching and listening to us play from the water beside us, and a variety of spiders throughout the tunnel. People would periodically walk through the tunnel as we were playing, sometimes with dogs. A mother passed by with her children, who seemed very intrigued by the instruments. All the music was improvised. This album contains the entirety of the session in chronological order with no cuts or overdubs - with the exception of track 2, "formom", which fades out because the recorder battery died while we were playing. It was a great joy to create this music together, in a beautiful outdoor location with wonderful acoustics, with a variety of people and animals there to hear it in passing without having to attend a formalized performance. Informal music-making, especially done outdoors, in nature, and/or in public, is a very beautiful thing that I hope everybody can try for themselves or be in proximity to.
